THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO (TWO)

Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander

In the North American film version of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo", set for December 2011 release, Rooney Mara will play Lisbeth Salander.

Salander is by far and away the most interesting female in fiction and film of the past decade.  Her punk princess gear and makeup are a smoke screen for intellect and vulnerability.

November 2011 VOGUE features Mara, already emaciated, pierced and tattooed, with the prerequisite cliche dyed black hair (very, very Goth). Don't get her angry.  This girl kicks some serious butt and she has a near genius IQ.

  1. I can't WAIT to see this movie. The casting looks great (even better than the Swedish film). I so hope they don't mess it up - a great character and a great story. She's not exactly as I imagined Lisbeth (I kept seeing a punk version of Louise Brooks), but close enough!

  2. They took this actress from freshly-scrubbed to the "poster" look -- as only Hollywood can do. At first I felt it was skirting pedophilia, she looked so young. But--in the books, Lisbeth IS supposed to look young for her age. there are so few good movies around right now, I too am looking forward to it. Love Daniel Craig.

  3. I've been waiting for this one, too, ever since I read (and loved) the books. The coming attractions don't seem to follow the story as I remember it, so I'm hoping for the best, but a bit skeptical. Can the movie be as good?

  4. I want to see this film to compare it with the Swedish one. In general I've found that very few films can match the book. Even Gone With the Wind. It became David O. Selznick's version, since the book was so long. This trilogy has the same issues. Still, I am looking forward to it. Thanks for commenting, 'llandseadel'!
